COURSE OVERVIEW

The organisational structure is one of the most important factors in the organisations productivity and success. However, this importance is not well understood in most of the Australian governmental and non-governmental organisations. By the end of this course, through several highly engaging workshops, participants will be able to demonstrate the importance of the business architecture. Participants will also have a good understanding of the steps involved in business transformation and building an agile and productive process structure.

COURSE OUTLINE

Division of work

Discussing work division and why it matters followed by two workshops to show our bias in business architecture and the result of this bias.

Role of customer values in process management

Discussing customer values followed by defining process, process diagram, process measures and P8 Model. There will be also a brief presentation on process map, policy and procedure documents. This section includes three workshops to demonstrate customer values and how to make a single process diagram and process measures.

Process-based structures vs traditional functional structures

Discussing process-based (also known as process-oriented) structure and its difference with traditional functional structure. This section includes a workshop to build a process-based structure.

Business transformation methods and steps

Discussing Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and why most re-engineering projects fail. This is followed by a presentation on Business Process Rearrangement and Renaming (BPR2) followed by three BPR2 workshops.


 

PRESENTERS

Dr Ali Khosravi is a Senior Consultant at Excellencers Co. He has completed his PhD at Macquarie University, Sydney and has led more than 30 Business Improvement projects within a range of industries including health, education, telecommunication, construction, water and sewerage, power generation and distribution, food, automotive, oil drilling, and a two-billion-dollar oil refinery and petrochemical complex project where he was in charge of the whole feasibility study. His main fields of expertise include Business Excellence and Business Process / Performance Management. He has published articles in international journals such as Business Process Management Journal and Total Quality Management and Business Excellence Journal.

Dr Alireza Abbasi is Director of Postgraduate Studies and Coordinator of Project Management programs in the University of New South Wales (UNSW) at Canberra. He obtained his PhD in Project Management from the University of Sydney in 2012 before joining the School of Engineering and Information Technology (SEIT) at UNSW Canberra. He also holds a graduate certificate in University Learning and Teaching from UNSW Sydney. His research and teaching interests include project management, management science, information systems management and network science. He has written a book, three book chapters and over 60 technical journal and conference papers.  Dr Abbasi has had several appointments and been involved in different projects in IT/Software, Oil, Education and R&D sectors. He is an active member of several professional bodies including Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), Project Management Institute (PMI), and Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM).
