Biographical Note

Dr Chris Clark (formerly known as Chris Coulthard-Clark) was born in 1951, and raised in the Wimmera district of Victoria. He graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1972, and gained his PhD from the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra in 1991. He was a captain in the Army before resigning to join the Public Service in 1979.

He has been the RAAF Historian since early in 2004 and heads the Office of Air Force History in the Air Power Development Centre at Tuggeranong. Prior to joining the APDC, he was Historian for Post-1945 Conflicts at the Australian War Memorial. Previously, he was a Research Editor with Australian dictionary of biography at the Australian National University, and ran his own historical consultancy. In 1991-93 he was Historical Fellow at the Air Power Studies Centre (as the APDC was once known), and before that Chief of the Air Staff Historian 1987-91.

He has been a Visiting Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Australian Defence Force Academy, UNSW Canberra since 2003.
