Real-time Distributed Lifelong Optimisation Algorithms for Swarm Intelligence

A swarm is a group of decentralized decision nodes that need to coordinate and synchronise actions to achieve an effect. One example is in computer Ad-hoc networks where the nodes need to swarm to maximise network throughput. This project aims at designing and proving optimality conditions for new optimisation algorithms. The nature of this optimization problem is that each agent optimises its actions on its own with no or minimum communication, the environment is changing; thus, the optimisation process needs to be lifelong continuous ones, and there are very limited computational resources available to each agent to optimize; thus, the optimisation algorithm needs to be efficient and light-weight. The candidate will work closely with Prof. Hussein Abbass Prof. Hussein Abbass team at UNSW-Canberra and will contribute real-time distributed optimisation algorithms swarm intelligence.
